You’ve done the inner work.
The journaling. The affirmations. The visualisations. The courses. And still — at a certain income level — something tightens. You earn more. Then an expense appears. A client cancels. You over-deliver until you’ve worked the gain away. The number returns to its familiar place.
This isn’t a belief problem.
It’s a nervous system response. And the reason traditional mindset work doesn’t dissolve it is that it never reaches far enough. Affirmations land in the conscious mind. Your income ceiling lives somewhere deeper.
What’s Actually Happening When Your Income Resets
At the Institute, we call it Wealth Phobia. Your nervous system has learned — through early experiences, inherited patterns, or cultural conditioning — that earning beyond a specific threshold isn’t safe. Not logically unsafe. Biologically unsafe.
When you approach that threshold, the system activates. Heart rate shifts. Breathing changes. Decision-making becomes subtly distorted. You over-give. You under-charge. You create unconscious obstacles. The money disappears.
This is a phobic response. It operates like any other phobia: automatic, involuntary, and completely resistant to willpower or positive thinking. Understanding this distinction isn’t just comforting — it changes what you do about it.
Why EFT Tapping Reaches What Affirmations Don’t
EFT — Emotional Freedom Technique — works through bilateral stimulation: tapping specific acupressure points on the face and body while holding a feared thought or image in mind. Research on exposure therapy indicates that pairing mild bilateral stimulation with a feared stimulus can interrupt the phobic association and begin a process of reconsolidation.
In plain language: you tap while imagining wealth. Your nervous system begins to learn, through direct somatic experience, that wealth is not a threat.
This is the core of Phase Three of the D.A.R.E. Framework — RELAX. After DECIDE (identifying your exact income threshold) and AROUSE (activating the feared stimulus safely), RELAX pairs the nervous system activation with calming signals. EFT tapping is one of the most effective tools for this pairing, because it works at the body level rather than the cognitive level.
The Basic Tapping Sequence for Income Ceiling Anxiety
Move through each point slowly, tapping gently 5–7 times:
1. Karate chop point (side of the hand) 2. Top of head 3. Eyebrow (inner edge) 4. Side of eye 5. Under eye 6. Under nose 7. Chin 8. Collarbone 9. Under arm
Begin with a setup statement: Even though I feel anxiety when I imagine earning beyond [your current ceiling], I am open to the possibility that this can change. Then tap through each point while holding the image of earning at or beyond your threshold.
We observe at the Institute that clients who practice this sequence consistently — beginning with a moderate activation and gradually increasing the income amount imagined — tend to notice a shift in their body’s response within a few weeks. The ceiling doesn’t disappear overnight. It dissolves through repetition.
How Often to Practice
The tapping protocol is most effective when practiced consistently. Many clients find that two short sessions daily works well — one in the morning while imagining the target income, and one in the evening as a nervous system wind-down. You can also tap in the moment: any time you notice your body contracting around money. A large invoice. A rate negotiation. A payment notification that triggers bracing rather than relief.
Consistency matters more than duration. Five minutes daily over two weeks creates more change than an intensive session once a month.
The goal isn’t to feel good about money. It’s to feel safe enough that your nervous system stops defending against it.
A Note on Starting
Before beginning exposure work, it helps to know precisely where your Fence is set. The free 2-minute screening identifies your specific income threshold and which pattern is maintaining it — so your tapping practice can be targeted rather than general.
The full D.A.R.E. Framework — including complete tapping sequences, setup statements, and the full four-phase exposure practice — is in The Imaginal Abundance Protocol.
